  Why was Amnon (son of David) not put to death for raping his half-sister Tamar

  it is amazing what comes up when i am researching.. i was thinking about the 2 witness rule.

  amnon tricked his half-sister tamar to be alone with him and then raped her.

  tamar's full brother absalom found out, it is implied by the wts that there had not been 2 witnesses to the rape (hah!).

  Clearly, the fulfilling of Amnon’s passionate, incestuous desire brought no real pleasure to him or to his half sister. And this so often is the case when persons engage in immoral sex relations.

  Always putting the blame on the girl. They make it out that she wanted to have sex with him. It's no different when they talk about rape in present day articles. Somehow it's the woman's responsibility to always avoid rape in every circumstance. Never mind if the man stalks her, or has a weapon etc. And then there is this one article about how women should empathize with the rapist - poor guy had a tough life ........

  Losing a loyal friend of 14 years

  this last tuesday was one of the most stressful and sad days of our life when we had our lab morgan put to sleep.

  she was so sick and out of it we just had to do it.

  when i called the spca on monday to make a appointment to have her put to sleep i felt like i betrayed her.

  Sorry for your loss. Pets big or small give love and happiness. They aren't looking for ways to cheat you or browbeat you like some humans (looking at you WT) they just see you as the center of their universe (ok maybe not cats) and love you.

  When they get older, you think if the time comes and they are suffering, you'll just have to put them to sleep (logically) But when the time comes, you waver. Never easy no matter how much you know it's the right thing to do.

  They was an old article about how Christendom "blesses" pagan objects and uses them in worship. They would integrate objects used in local religions to "welcome" in the locals.

  WT is no different. Bless this pagan church and now it's clean for us to worship in it.

  UPDATE: Wife Pretty Much Knows That I Don't Believe

  we had a nice long talk and i brought up some things that make me think that this isn't the "truth" and she somewhat agreed with me.

  i stuck with things i personally experienced or had knowledge of plus all the changes in recent years.

  she agreed on a lot of the points but still believes in god and the bible.

  Maybe changing halls will show her other things that she didn't expect. Halls can vary a great deal depending on the elders. My old hall seemed pretty nice but one night I went to another hall because I had missed the mid meeting. What I saw had my head spinning. Too bad I didn't take it as a wake up call.

  It seems like you are taking it slow which is good. Hope your endeavors with your wife work out and she gets out.

  Two JW`s called at my door today

  the wife and i were expecting a health worker to call at our door 10:30 this morning and about 10;35 two women appeared at our door so i opened up thinking they were who i expected ,so i was take back a bit being caught off guard when they identified themselves as doing a bible work.. this is just the gist of what took place & not a word for word conversation.. a woman about in her fifties her companion about her twenties.the older woman did most of the talking as she read to me the scripture from her phone " in the last days critical times hard to deal with...etc.etc.and she went back and emphasised that we were living in the last days because of what that scripture said.. i made the comment that the scripture just about sums up human history in any given time.then i went on to say that this day and age is the best time in human history overall given the advances in technology ,medical procedures ,the overall standard of living being higher and so on .but they insisted on we were living in the last days.then i said different religions have been claiming that for the past couple hundred years.. then to throw them a curve ball i asked if they were mormons ?

  oh no we are jehovah`s witnesses.had i been prepared for them and not caught out unawares i would have taken a different tact.i then asked the older woman how long she has been a witness and she said 36 years so i then said to her you must have seen a lot of changes in your religion during that time which she agreed with.

  ( the light gets brighter).

  50 Years since the first moon landing

  in july of 1969, i was 16 years old and was pretty excited by the prospect that the us would shortly land a man on the moon.

  however, i remember, vividly and older brother at the time confidently stating that man would never walk on the moon, quoting psalms 115 - "as for the heavens, they belong to jehovah.

  but the earth he has given to the sons of man.

  For me the moon landing brought out thoughts of what could go wrong. Much like a submarine, not much you can do when you run out of air. And I wondered, what is going to moon going do to help people on the earth? All the money wasted when they could help improve drought areas etc.

  30 years after leaving utterly unrecognisable

  this is the first time i have posted on here in many years..... i seldom visit now although this forum was instrumental to me in gaining my sanity in the early 2000's and recovering from the watchtower religion.. by chance tonight i was on youtube and caught a jw.org video which out of curiosity prompted me to look at the official website and amongst other things i looked up the music section.. why that i hear you ask?

  music is my passion and nothing reminds me more or evokes more memories than the kingdom songs i grew up listening to.. i am 49 years old and my mother was baptised in 1974. i grew up in the era of pink songbooks and green bibles.

  of the theology of fred franz and types and anti-types.

  One older sister that I had been taking to the meetings just before I left, hated, hated the new songs. She was in poor health and kept saying the new world had better come soon. Well she died a few years after I left never seeing the new world...

  I'm older than you #6 and the WT's dragged on long before you. You think your salvation is at hand when you look back at the clock and it's 5 to 12. 5 minutes that somehow dragged on for another 10. Then the long prayer.

  I remember assemblies that proved the Trinity wrong. Who Babylon the Great was. The types and anitypes. Declarations against false religion that brought thunderous clapping around the stadium. Loud joyful singing. Remember the song that had as the ending chorus "What shall we bring, Jehovah's kingdom?" sung by the brothers and then the answer by the sisters - "Triumph and truth and righteousness" Then all would sing the end. That was back in the day before 1975 and people had a firm belief that soon, yes soon Armageddon would bring relief and the end of death.
